This is my human family, that I am just as proud of as I am of my dog family. This
pictured was taken in 2005. Megan is on the back row and she was 22 years old. The
second row has my husband, Steve was 49 years old, and Ashley was 21 years old.
The bottom row has my son, Stephen, 11 years old, myself, Nicole (and frankly I am not
telling you my age, I hope I look more like one of the girl's), and then my youngest
daughter Vanessa who was 8 years old.

BABY BUMPKIN BASSET HOUNDS
ABOUT US:
We are the Vernon family and proud owners of the Baby Bumpkin Basset Hound Kennel.  I would
love to tell you a little about ourselves and how we got started with this wonderful breed.

We currently own 6  Basset Hounds.  We are very proud of the fact that all of our dogs are extremely
healthy and nice to be around. All of our dogs, as well as the puppies we offer, are AKC registrable.
We currently enjoy showing & spending time with our dogs. As well as a limited amount of breeding.
I do have to admit that we love having the babies around & the families we meet that take them into
their homes & hearts.

Well this all started with my son, he is now 12 years old. He is a special needs child with severe
epilepsy and severe Autism.  He was having a hard time over 10 years ago connecting to the world
around him and was non-verbal.  A therapist of his recommended a dog for him to form a bond with.
After much research, we decided on a Basset Hound.  We waited on a waiting list for almost a year
for a good quality healthy puppy for our son.  That is when Peaches came along.  Well I have to tell
you that she did the trick.  He absolutely adored her and she loved him.  She helped him in so many
ways, including being able to speak a little.  One of the first words he was able to say was her name.
It greatly saddens us to have to say that Peaches passed away this past fall.  She was cremated as
an honor to her, and think of her everyday.  I find it difficult to even write about her, without wanting to
cry. What a gift she was. SHE SERVED HER PURPOSE TO THE FULLEST!!

That started it all.  We soon realized just how  incredible this breed was.  They are such a fantastic
family dog and great companions.  The patience that each of our dogs has shown with our children
has been amazing.  We also love their heartiness, the fact that they are not a fragile breed, & have
few health concerns when bred correctly.

We recommend for anyone interested in a Basset Hound to read as much as you can about them
and talk to people that own them.  Make sure that this is the breed for you.  They can be a little
stubborn and try your patience some as a puppy, but once you get them to the adult stage they are
fantastic family members and companions.

We are members of our local Basset Hound club which is The Missouri River Basset Hound Club,
and our national club which is The Basset Hound Club of America.  I think this is a great thing to do.
You don't have to show dogs to be a member. After all, if you own a Basset Hound, you love them and
want to do the best for them. A club can provide a great source of support and information.
